Police detain the flat owner where ex-president Saakashvili was found in Tbilisi

The Georgian Interior Ministry has arrested the owner of the flat for not informing police where Georgian ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili was arrested yesterday in Sanzona neighbourhood of Tbilisi. 

Police are also investigating how Saakashvili crossed into Georgia from Ukraine. 

The Georgian Interior Ministry says that the special operation, with the involvement of the State Security Service, was confidential. 

The ministry says that they received operative information on Saakashvili’s whereabouts. 

Saakashvili, who has returned to Georgia for the first time since 2013, is now in the 12th prison of Rustavi. 

He has been convicted in two cases for abuse of authority back in 2018 and was sentenced to six years in prison in absentia. 

Other three cases which involve Saakashvili are still in courts. 

Saakashvili calls on voters to vote for the opposition in today’s municipal elections as his and the country’s ‘freedom’ are dependent on their activeness.
