Police detain UNM activists at Rustavi prison protesting Saakashvili’s arrest

Georgian law enforcers have detained at least three activists of the United National Movement (UNM) opposition party, including Zviad Kuprava, earlier today at Rustavi prison while they were  trying to write ‘Freedom for Misha’ (Georgian ex-president Mikhel Saakashvili) on the walls. 

The individuals have been detained for disobedience to police. 

Saakashvili, who was arrested in Tbilisi on October 1, is now in Rustavi prison No.12 and has been on hunger strike since the day of his detention. 

He claims he returned to Georgia after eight years in political exile to ‘save’ the country from the ‘rule of the Georgian Dream leadership.’ 

Saakashvili was convicted in Georgia in absentia back in 2018 for abuse of authority and has been sentenced to six years in prison. 

He has also been charged with four other cases, including for the recent ‘illegally crossing the border’ from Ukraine. 

Saakashvili is a citizen of Ukraine and is holding an official post there in the National Reforms Council
