Polish health professionals will visit Georgia in the coming days and they will assess the condition of imprisoned former president Mikheil Saakashvili, lawyer Shalva Khachapuridze told the media on Friday.

He said the Polish side had made the decision following the recent demarche of all EU member states to the country’s justice ministry over Saakashvili’s health.

Tbilisi city and court of appeals both denied Saakashvili’s transfer abroad on health grounds over the past several weeks.

They rejected the claims of Saakashvili’s entourage that the former official is in urgent need of “proper treatment” abroad.
