Police seize over 18 kg of methadone, Ukrainian citizen arrested in major drug bust

The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs on Saturday announced the seizure of more than 18 kilograms of the illicit drug methadone and the arrest of a Ukrainian national as part of its intensified, nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking and distribution.

The Ministry said police searched the suspect’s vehicle and residence in Mtskheta Municipality, where they discovered a large quantity of methadone. The detainee, identified as P.K., born in 1988, was arrested on charges of illegal possession and storage of drugs in especially large quantities, as well as facilitating their distribution.

Investigators also recovered materials used for packaging the narcotics.

The offense carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
