Georgian police have seized a massive quantity of illegal drugs in a late-night raid in the coastal city of Batumi, in what officials describe as a major blow to the drug trade targeting young people in the region.

According to Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, law enforcement officers confiscated nearly 3 kilograms of cocaine, approximately 13,000 ecstasy pills, and a significant quantity of heroin. Authorities believe the drugs were intended for distribution in Batumi's nightlife venues, posing a grave threat to public health, particularly among youth.

The operation was carried out by the Batumi City Division of the Adjara Police Department. As part of the investigation, two Belarusian nationals — R.S. (born in 2000) and M.V. (born in 2004) — were arrested for the illegal possession, storage, and attempted distribution of large-scale narcotic substances.

The seizure occurred during a search of an apartment rented by one of the suspects, where police discovered the drugs along with packaging materials. Additional narcotics — including 7 small packets of cocaine and ecstasy — were found during personal searches. Authorities also found photographic evidence on one suspect’s phone, showing potential drop-off points for drug distribution around Batumi.

The suspects face charges under Georgia’s Criminal Code, which could result in up to 20 years or life imprisonment.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals connected to the case and bring them to justice.

"This amount of narcotics, if distributed, would have caused irreparable damage to the health and lives of citizens, especially the youth," said Deputy Minister Darakhvelidze. "We remain fully committed to the uncompromising fight against drug trafficking across the country."

The ministry promised to keep the public regularly informed about the progress and results of its ongoing anti-narcotics efforts.
