Police seize 619 Subutex pills, detain repeat offender

Officers of the Central Criminal Police Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs have seized a large quantity of illegal drugs and detained one charged with attempting to purchase and possess them, the Ministry said on Friday.

The suspect, identified only as G.Z., born in 1983 and previously convicted of multiple crimes, was arrested while attempting to retrieve the drugs from a hiding place, the body added.

According to investigators, 619 Subutex pills had been smuggled into the country concealed inside a moped shipped from abroad. Police apprehended the suspect at the moment he tried to take possession of the narcotics.

The drugs were confiscated as evidence.

The offense is punishable by up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
