Georgian law enforcement authorities have arrested two people on suspicion of drug offences following an operation at Batumi International Airport.

Officers from the Central Criminal Police Department's Adjara division, working alongside the Revenue Service's Customs Department, detained a Georgian citizen and a foreign national.

Investigators alleged that the suspects illegally imported, purchased and possessed particularly large quantities of narcotic drugs and psychoactive substances.

Police said a personal search of the suspects led to the seizure of 94 tablets containing narcotic and new psychoactive substances. A psychotropic substance was also recovered during the operation.

If convicted, the suspects could face up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
