Officers from the Patrol Police Department, Tbilisi Police Department and Shida Kartli Police Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs have arrested five individuals on charges related to the illegal acquisition, possession, facilitation of sale and importation of large and particularly large quantities of narcotic and psychotropic substances.

According to the ministry, those detained include both Georgian and foreign nationals. Law enforcement officers seized various types of drugs during searches of the suspects’ persons, residential premises and locations identified by the detainees.

The seized substances include large and particularly large quantities of heroin, amphetamine, methadone, MDMA, cocaine, methamphetamine, dried marijuana, as well as the psychotropic substance pregabalin.

In one case, patrol police officers also recovered an illegally possessed firearm and ammunition from one of the detainees.

The investigation is being conducted under Articles 260, 260¹, 261, 262 and 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carry penalties of up to 20 years’ imprisonment or life sentence.
