Authorities said one of those detained had a previous criminal conviction

Police in Tbilisi have arrested two individuals on charges of illegally purchasing, possessing and facilitating the sale of large quantities of narcotics, the Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.

Officers from the Old Tbilisi division of the Tbilisi Police Department carried out searches of the suspects and their homes, seizing 80 packages of dried marijuana prepared for sale.

Authorities said one of those detained had a previous criminal conviction.

Investigators also confiscated materials allegedly used for packaging narcotics during the operation.

The offences are punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
