Police seize large quantities of drugs in Tbilisi, five detained

Police in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi have seized especially large quantities of narcotic substances, with five individuals detained on charges of illegal acquisition, storage and facilitation of the sale of drugs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Sunday.
The Ministry added officers of the Gldani-Nadzaladevi Main Division of the Tbilisi Police Department arrested five suspects: H.K. (born in 2001), previously convicted individuals N.Kh. (born in 1964) and D.M. (born in 1977), as well as foreign nationals R.S. (born in 1977) and I.K. (born in 2003).
Law enforcement officers conducted searches of the suspects’ persons, residences and vehicles, and, during an investigative experiment, seized especially large quantities of various narcotic substances prepared for sale. The confiscated drugs included methadone, alpha-PVP, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and dried marijuana, the Ministry said.
In addition, illegal firearms and ammunition were seized from the residence of one of the detainees, identified as D.M.
The crime is punishable by up to 20 years’ imprisonment or life imprisonment.
