Officers from the Old Tbilisi division of the Tbilisi police department have arrested a foreign national on charges of illegal acquisition and possession of a particularly large quantity of narcotics and facilitating drug distribution, Georgia’s Interior Ministry said.

The Ministry said the officers seized 23 packages of the narcotic substance methadone, prepared for sale, during searches of the suspect and the individual’s residence.

The offences are punishable by up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
