Police in Georgia have arrested two people in Tbilisi on suspicion of possessing and facilitating the distribution of particularly large quantities of narcotic substances.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs on Monday said officers from the Vake-Saburtalo and Gldani-Nadzaladevi divisions of the Tbilisi Police Department carried out the arrests.

Law enforcement officers seized evidence during personal searches of the suspects. Police said they recovered 49 packages containing especially large quantities of the drugs alpha-PVP and dried marijuana, which were prepared for distribution.

If convicted, the suspects face up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
