Five arrested in Tbilisi on drug possession, trafficking charges

Police also confiscated materials allegedly intended for packaging narcotic substances

Police in Tbilisi have detained five people on suspicion of the illegal purchase, possession and facilitation of the sale of narcotic substances, Georgia’s Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.
The arrests were carried out at different times by officers from the Isani-Samgori and Gldani-Nadzaladevi main divisions of the Tbilisi Police Department. Those detained include both Georgian and foreign nationals.
Searches of the suspects’ personal belongings and homes, as well as locations indicated by them, led to the seizure of various types of drugs, including methadone and dried marijuana, which have been taken as evidence.
Police also confiscated materials allegedly intended for packaging narcotic substances.
The offences carry penalties of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
