Police seize illegal firearms and ammunition across Georgia, 18 arrested

Georgian law enforcement agencies have conducted a series of special operations across the country, resulting in the seizure of illegal firearms, ammunition, and drugs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) announced. A total of 18 individuals have been arrested in connection with these offenses.

According to the MIA, officers from the Central Criminal Police, as well as regional police departments in Tbilisi, Adjara, Kakheti, Shida Kartli, Kvemo Kartli, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Guria, and Imereti, carried out investigative and operational measures to uncover illegal weapons possession, storage, and transportation.

The detained individuals, including several with prior criminal records, were found in possession of automatic rifles, pistols, revolvers, grenades, magazines, large quantities of ammunition, and a silencer. During the searches of their homes, vehicles, and personal belongings, police also discovered illegal narcotics, including Alpha-PVP and marijuana.

The suspects face charges under Articles 236, 214, 260, and 273(1) of the Georgian Criminal Code, which could result in prison sentences of up to eight years.
