Former US officials and analysts have named Reykjavik, Prague, Ljubljana and Baku as possible locations for the summit between US President Joe Biden and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Politico reported.
"While President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin are preparing for a potential face-to-face meeting, their aides are trying to determine the best place …" – the news_copypaper writes.
Several European governments have already proposed their main cities as potential venues for events, according to media reports.
Among them are the governments of Switzerland, Finland and Austria.
Meanwhile, former US officials and analysts told the news_copypaper that other cities should not be ruled out as possible meeting places.
Biden said Tuesday that he "hopes and looks forward to" meeting Putin when he travels to Europe in mid-June to meet with NATO leaders, the G7 summit and the US-EU summit.
Former US officials and analysts believe it makes sense for the US president to meet with the Russian president in the capital of a nearby country.
Among the possible options they named the capital of Iceland – Reykjavik, the capital of the Czech Republic – Prague, the capital of Slovenia – Ljubljana and the capital of Azerbaijan – Baku.
The publication reminds that in mid-April it was reported that an official of the Czech Republic offered to host Putin and Biden. But this invitation may no longer be valid, because relations between Prague and Moscow have deteriorated sharply since then.
