A 26-year-old woman infected with Covid-19, who was transported from Georgia’s Batumi hospital to Kutaisi on August 20, has died after a caesarean section was performed yesterday.

Doctors say that the woman, in her 36 week of pregnancy, was in critical condition, with her lungs damaged by 70 percent.

The newborn feels good.

It is the ninth case of death with coronavirus in pregnant women in Georgia.

The Delta variant of coronavirus, which is currently dominant in Georgia, poses serious threats to pregnant women and doctors urge them to receive the coronavirus vaccine.

The recently deceased woman has not been vaccinated.

Georgia has reported 4,128 new cases of coronavirus earlier today which is a slight decrease compared to the figures of the last several days, while daily deaths have hit 79 in the past 24 hours which is a record high figure since the country confirmed its first case of coronavirus at the end of February 2020.

56,200 remain infected with Covid-19 in Georgia currently.
