Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday slammed those opposing the bill related to rallies which was approved by the Parliament earlier this month and vetoed by the President this week.

“Those who objected or will object to this draft law, which is related to the regulation of rallies and demonstrations, are all supporters of the revolutionary scenario”, he said.

He claimed the President had “already announced she is a supporter of the revolution”.

“Everyone else who opposes this bill is directly admitting that they want a revolution in this country. We want peace. The Georgian public and the Government want peace and, of course, we will do everything to ensure peace, and this bill serves the goal,” he said.

The bill bans installation of “temporary constructions” during rallies on specific occasions, following the recent claims by the country’s State Security Service about an alleged planned unrest in the country this fall.
