Georgian president Salome Zourabishvili on Monday called for NATO to take “effective steps” at the forthcoming Vilnius Summit and return to the spirit of the Bucharest Summit Declaration on its enlargement, stressing “ nobody should give Russia false hopes that isolated Georgia will become its new and easy target”.
While in Lithuania, Zourabichvili said Georgia had shown the alliance “many examples of worthy and reliable partnership over the past 20 years”.
“Almost 20 years have passed since Lithuania joined the European Union and NATO. We have been witnessing Lithuania’s special contribution to the process of strengthening European and global security for two decades. In July, Lithuania is the host of NATO’s Vilnius Summit.
Georgia attaches great importance to the highest level of involvement in the Vilnius Summit. We have shown many examples of worthy and reliable partnership to the Alliance over the past 20 years”, Zourabichvili said.
“It is time for the alliance to take concrete steps to return to the spirit of the Bucharest Summit Declaration and show us the progress of Georgia’s NATO integration here in Vilnius in July. In general, no one should allow Georgia and the Georgian people to be disappointed. No one should give Russia false hopes that isolated Georgia will become its new and easy target,” the president added.
