Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Tuesday hailed the “exemplary” relationship between Georgia and Armenia during his first official visit to Yerevan, pledging to further strengthen political, economic and cultural cooperation “amid growing regional and global uncertainty.”

Speaking alongside Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturian at a joint press briefing, Kavelashvili praised the countries’ “expanding partnership,” highlighting the importance of “strategic alignment” in a “rapidly shifting” geopolitical landscape.

“Despite global challenges, we continue to deepen the close political, economic and people-to-people ties between our countries,” he said. “Georgia and Armenia have exemplary bilateral cooperation in many areas.”

He pointed to last year’s Strategic Partnership Agreement as a “key milestone” in bilateral relations and emphasized “mutual respect” for sovereignty and territorial integrity. Kavelashvili also highlighted Armenia’s status as a “vital trade partner and tourism contributor,” affirming Georgia’s ongoing commitment to regional peace and integration.

Addressing regional tensions, the Georgian president welcomed the recent announcement by Armenia and Azerbaijan on the terms of a peace deal, calling it “the beginning of an important process” toward a stable and secure South Caucasus. He also confirmed plans for a trilateral summit in Tbilisi on April 17, which he said would launch a new phase of regional cooperation.

Cultural diplomacy was another focus of the visit, with Kavelashvili announcing Days of Georgian Culture in Yerevan this June and reciprocal celebrations of Armenian culture in Tbilisi next year.

“Respect for our unique traditions, histories, and identities is what unites our peoples,” Kavelashvili said. “Our strategic partnership rests on a centuries-old friendship, and we are determined to take it to new heights.”
