President nominates ex-Economy Minister Turnava for National Bank board member

Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili has nominated the country’s former Minister of Economy under the Georgian Dream authorities, Natia Turnava, as a board member of the National Bank of Georgia (NBG), Vice Parliament Speaker Gia Volski said on Tuesday. 

Volski suggested that the issue will be discussed by the Parliamentary Committee on Finance and Budget and the Committee on Sectoral Economics and Economic Policy in the coming days.

The members of the Board of the National Bank are elected by the Parliament on the recommendation of the President for a term of seven years. 

According to the Law on the National Bank, the board should consist of nine members. There are now seven members on the board, with two positions vacant.

Turnava served as the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia  from April 18, 2019 to February 9, 2022. 

She was appointed to the role by former PM Mamuka Bakhtadze.

On February 9 of this year  Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili nominated Levan Davitashvili to replace Turnava to the post. 

 

Turnava claimed she wanted to change the field somewhat to try her hand in other areas.
