The Georgian president’s administration confirmed on Tuesday Salome Zourabichvili had not received an invitation to attend the Ambassadors’ Conference running in Tbilisi until Thursday, focusing on the main theme of European integration and Georgia’s closeness to the European Union after obtaining the bloc’s candidacy this month.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili, emphasized this year’s conference was dedicated to specific actions taken by the Government of Georgia, the executive power, and the Parliament of Georgia.

He stated, “Practically, these two branches of the government were responsible for these important directions. We heard the address of the Prime Minister of Georgia, who personally led this process, as well as the address of the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, who, together with the management team, was personally involved in the implementation of the significant legislative activities that took place last year and this year. Therefore, this year’s conference of ambassadors was organized with this motive and logic, and we will continue to work in a working mode”.

Commenting on the absence of Zourabichvili,, Darchiashvili explained, “The President of Georgia was invited last year, but unfortunately, she decided not to participate. As for this year’s conference, the Government and the Parliament have worked throughout the year to achieve this result. The format was assembled with this logic in mind, and the president was not invited this year. Both the Government of Georgia and the Parliament of Georgia worked physically and practically to achieve this result. Accordingly, the heads of both governments addressed the ambassadors today.”
