Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili says that she will never pardon former president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, who was arrested in Tbilisi on October 1, and who has been on hunger strike since then, “He is a convict, who entered the country voluntarily and illegally, aimed to cause destabilisation,” Zurabishvili said.

She stated that all measures should be taken to ensure proper treatment for Saakashvili to prevent speculations related to his deteriorated health.

Saakashvili, who currently holds Ukrainian citizenship, was convicted in Georgia back in 2018 for abuse of authority in absentia and was sentenced to six years in prison.

He says he returned after eight years in political exile to remove the Georgian Dream from power.
