President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili has signed a decree appointing Irakli Kobakhidze as the country’s new Prime Minister.

Her administration stated that the president’s decision aimed to ensure the “smooth functioning” of disaster response efforts as 11 died in landslides in western Georgia this week, timely issuance of necessary acts, and efficient reaction to natural disasters.

During the parliamentary session on Thursday, MPs expressed confidence in the newly formed Georgian government under Kobakhidze’s leadership, garnering 84 votes of support.

Prior to the vote, lawmakers reviewed Kobakhidze’s government program and engaged in a question-and-answer session with the Prime Minister-designate.

Following the resignation of former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, Kobakhidze presented the government’s composition and the program focused on advancing towards a European state during a parliamentary session.
