Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili said on Police Day on Tuesday that killing women in the country was shameful and that the violence must be over.
Addressing police officers Zourabichvili said that “much has been done over years to prevent domestic violence, but there is still much to be done.”
“It is true that some people do not like the word ‘shameful,’ but for me, and I believe that you also consider it shameful, killing women in front of their children is really shameful. This is a big challenge for you too and a lot has been done in this regard over years. Women are no longer afraid to call the police which is followed by a restraining order, this is no longer an exception. But we also know that you, me and everyone still need to do much to prevent such crimes,” Zourabichvili told law enforcement officers. .
She said that all institutions and the public should be united to “leave the crime in the past.”
