President Zourabichvili: Ukraine deserves church independence

Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili says that the Ukrainian nation deserves the autocephaly of its church.

“A strong, free Ukrainian nation is actually being born. Perhaps they also deserve the autocephaly of the church,” Zourabichvili told journalists earlier today.

She stated that the church’s independence (from Russia) has played a crucial role in the building of an independent state of Georgia.

“Without restoration of autocephaly there would probably not have been any restoration of independence. We would not be here today as one independent, powerful state,” Zourabichvili said.

The President is active to express support for Ukraine during ongoing hostilities in the country.
