Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili says that the US is confident Ukraine will win a war and that they (the US) are ensuring genuine support for Kyiv.
In her recent interview for French Paris Match, Zourabichvili said that “we cannot predict the future, but unity, resistance, highlighting the barbarity of Russian aggression on women, children, civilians, reinforce the exemplarity of Ukraine.”
She stated that the Ukrainian President had done his best to prevent any provocations, while since the beginning of the Russian invasion Volodymyr Zelensky had taken “all steps” to protect the interests of his country.
“Zelensky has waged an extraordinary PR war. While his soldiers were at war, he campaigned on screens with real-time information. I have rarely seen such a strategy and the support he receives today from the United States is the result of this campaign. And with this support, one can reasonably be optimistic,” she said.
Zourabichvili said that there were nearly 25,000 Ukrainian refugees in Georgia at this moment.
“We have very friendly and very old relations with Ukraine, dating back to before the Soviet period. We also have Russian refugees, rather in opposition to their regime or in any case who claim to be in opposition. At first there was a great mistrust, the first arrivals were greeted with Ukrainian flags, and signs ‘you are welcome if you do not support Putin,’ There have never been any incidents so far,” Zourabichvili stated.
She reiterated that “nothing will change Georgia’s determination to pursue its path towards the European Union and NATO. The fragility of Georgia and Moldova, countries bordering Russia, is that they are not protected by Article 5 of the Treaty on European Union and therefore do not benefit from European solidarity.”
She stated that the Ukrainian issue,” which is of course in the spotlight,” should not overshadow the interests of Georgia and Moldova in the eyes of the international community.
