Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has met with former president Giorgi Margvelashvili on her recently voiced initiative on ‘making peace’ between the current and former state leaderships of Georgia ‘to allow the country end political polarization and move forward.’
Former employee of the presidential administration, current member of the Lelo opposition party, Pikria Chikhradze, has told the media the meeting has already taken place.
Imprisoned former president Mikheil Saakashvili says that the ‘national reconciliation is in everyone’s interests.’
However, the ruling Georgian Dream party members say that ‘no reconciliation takes place’ until Saakashvili and his United National Movement party ‘admit to serious crimes they committed while in office and then leave politics.’
The ruling party head, Irakli Kobakhidze, has also responded to Saakashvili’s view that the reconciliation process should begin with a meeting of Zurabishvili, Margvelashvili and him, noting that Margvelashvili has no political weight.
