The Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara on Monday announced the arrest of a police detective from the Third Division of the Batumi City Police Department in connection with an armed robbery.

The detective allegedly attacked a manager at a grocery store on Tabukashvili Street in Batumi using a utility knife, threatening life-threatening violence, and stole 2,915 GEL.

The suspect voluntarily surrendered to responding officers and admitted to the crime.

He has been charged under Article 179, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (robbery), which carries a sentence of up to seven years in prison.

Following the prosecutor’s request, the suspect has been remanded in custody.
