The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has initiated an investigation into alleged sabotage, attempted sabotage, and assistance in hostile activities, following an appeal from the anti-Western United Neutral Georgia movement. The investigation, which began on February Saturday, centers around claims of “foreign interference in Georgia’s national security and constitutional order”.

The investigation follows a complaint from the United Neutral Georgia, which raised concerns about internal and external threats, citing actions aimed at undermining the Georgian state. Although the investigation does not specify any particular targets, the Prosecutor’s Office has indicated that the movement’s claims point to a broader scheme involving hostile foreign influence.

The case is being handled in cooperation with the State Security Service of Georgia and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Charges under investigation could carry prison sentences ranging from five to fifteen years.

Founded on July 10, 2024, the United Neutral Georgia movement is known for its vocal opposition to Western influence and European integration, advocating for Georgia to adopt a neutral stance in international affairs. The movement, which has been linked to the ruling Georgian Dream party, has garnered attention for its anti-Western rhetoric and accusations of espionage against opposition figures, including Mamuka Khazaradze and Giorgi Gakharia.
