Irakli Shotadze, the Prosecutor General of Georgia, on Tuesday said the investigation was in progress over President Salome Zourabichvili’s move in 2019 to pardon several convicts, but noted the criminal prosecution of the President was “limited” by the law due to her immunity.

The Prosecutor’s Office in September 2019 opened an investigation into the possible abuse of official authority in the process of pardoning the convicts Ramaz Devadze, Aslan Bezhanidze, Zurab Nadiradze and others.

As part of the investigation, the then Parliamentary Secretary of the President Dimitri Gabunia, the Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Angi Khutsishvili and other employees of the Presidential Administration were interviewed.
