The Georgian Chief Prosecutor’s Office has filed charges against the United National Movement opposition party MP David Kirkitadze for violence.
The case concerns an incident in Rustavi on September 24 ahead of October municipal elections last year, and a clash which involved several individuals, including Kirkitadze.
Kirkitadze has told Front News that the charge is politically grounded and is connected with snap elections in Rustavi City Assembly and the success of the opposition in the assembly.
The prosecution has plans to demand a bail and not pretrial custody for Kirkitadze.
