Prosecutorial Council nominates Giorgi Gabitashvili for Prosecutor General of Georgia

The Prosecutorial Council on Thursday announced it had selected Giorgi Gabitashvili, currently serving as Deputy Prosecutor General, as the candidate for the Prosecutor General of Georgia.

All 11 council members participating in the vote supported Gabitashvili’s candidacy. In contrast, Viktor Akhalbedashvili and Darejan Butskhrikidze did not receive any votes.

The Council will now present Gabitashvili to the Parliament, which will make the final decision on the appointment of the Prosecutor General.A total of 11 candidates were registered for the vacant position. 
Interviews were conducted over several days.

The position became vacant following the sudden resignation of Prosecutor General Irakli Shotadze, who cited health reasons for his departure.
