The opposition MP Salome Samadashvili said on Friday that the public expected the country’s PM Irakli Garibashvili would have resigned today when he announced a briefing in the afternoon.

Samadashvili stated that Garibashvili’s promise made at the briefing, that the government would have addressed priorities for the country to receive the candidate status, was “cheating the people ahead of today’s large-scale rally.”

Fellow opposition MP from Strategy Agmashenebeli, Giorgi Vashadze, suggested that today the Prime Minister and the government should have told the people that they “took full responsibility for this failure and that they would resign.”

“The people and the government deprived the country of the opportunity to receive candidate status, as well as  €14 billion along with the status and other benefits,” Vashadze said.

The European Council decided yesterday to grant candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova along with European perspective, while Georgia only perspective.
