Public servant throws greens at Lelo opposition leader while discussing EU with vendors

Goga Janezashvili, an employee of Gori City Hall, threw greens at the Lelo opposition party member Badri Japaridze while the latter was discussing EU benefits with vendors at Gori vending area on Thursday, ahead of the rally in Tbilisi on July 3 demanding the resignation of the country’s PM and composition of a new Cabinet.

Police took the public servant away from the scene following the incident.

The Home to Europe public movement members were  meeting with citizens in the regions today to invite them to the rally, speaking about the benefits of European integration in the wake of the European Council’s decision earlier this month to grant Georgia only European perspective and not candidate status.

The country needed to address several issues and carry out various reforms for the European Council to grant the status after six months.

The opposition claimed that the authboirories were “unwilling” to meet the recommendations, accusing them of being pro-Russian.

Japaridze and the Home to Europe members suggested on Thursday that the authorities were organizing attacks against them, noting that “situation in line with the scenario of the Russian FSB.”

The government said that the “radical opposition” was interested in the coup.
