Bacho Dolidze, a former member of the United National Movement opposition, on Friday told Front News “real changes” in the country could “only come through a complete overhaul” of the current Georgian Dream ruling power, in comments on the latest developments that saw Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili elected as the GD chair, while the party’s incumbent head Irakli Kobakhidze nominated for premiership.

In his comments, Dolidze claimed “individuals simply swapped seats” without addressing deeper issues, and emphasized such “minor adjustments” failed to address the fundamental concerns of the populace.

He further noted the replacement of Garibashvili with Kobakhidze did little to inspire confidence, as “neither figure enjoys public support or credibility”.

He also pointed to concerns of corruption within the government, citing “substantial sums of money” being involved and warning of the dangers of unchecked ambition.

Furthermore, Dolidze drew attention to the “alarming levels of corruption” within Tbilisi City Hall and urged for “urgent action” to address “systemic corruption and restore trust” in the political system.

Dolidze expressed optimism about the potential for change, particularly with the emergence of a new political union under Nika Melia, the former UNM chair. He emphasized the commitment to challenging the “current regime” and effecting “meaningful reforms”.

He stressed “we are [present] everywhere, consolidating our position. Our goal is not merely overcoming thresholds, but securing a positive outcome”.
