When the speaker of the parliament plans to consult with the opposition parties, I do think that we should refuse to participate, this is the position of the Republican Party and I have plans to meet the speaker with my own agenda, with my own views, head of the Republican Party Khatuna Samnidze said on Thursday.
Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili invited the opposition for a meeting on Wednesday in a bid to ease polarization ahead of the European Council’s repeated decision on the candidate status for Georgia by the end of this year.
Samnidze suggested that there was a difference of opinion on this issue in the political group that she represented, while she did not share the view that the meeting carried no meaning.
“If there is no point in the meeting, then there is no point in working in the parliament,” Samnidze said.
She stated that she wanted to talk to the chairman of the parliament about the issue of constitutional amendments, “which would be an indicator of how ready the government iis for depolarization.”
