The residential building on the May 26 street in Batumi, western Georgia, which collapsed on October 8 and killed nine individuals, will be fully demolished, Batumi City Hall says.

The City Hall states that nearby residential buildings will also be checked to prevent tragic incidents.

The alleged reason for the collapse, named by the country’s Chief Prosecutor’s Office, was a removal of a retaining wall by workers on the ground floor of the building.

The agency claimed that the owner of the first floor in the residential building wished to unite his first and ground floors and launched the renovation work without an official consent.

Three individuals have been arrested and charged in the case for violation of safety regulations which is punishable up to 10 years in prison.

Three of the nine individuals killed in the incident were minors.
