A retired soldier killed five, including a police officer, and injured five in Georgia’s eastern Sagarejo province early on Friday, before committing suicide.

The Interior Ministry said the man, who had served in the country’s defense ministry between 2006 and 2021, was firing shots from the balcony of his apartment, with his son escaping the flat.

The former servicemember, with alleged mental problems, was also serving in the NATO-led peace mission in Afghanistan while in service.

Police are looking into the incident.
