Ruling party announces congress in preparation of elections

Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream ruling party, on Friday announced the party congress was scheduled for December 30 to deliberate on the preparations for the 2024 parliamentary elections and address other political matters.
He said the session would endorse the newly streamlined composition of the political council. As per the decision of the Political Council of GD, the following lineup will be proposed for approval at the Congress:Irakli Garibashvili, Kakha Kaladze, Shalva Papuashvili, Mamuka Mdinaradze, Dimitri Samkharadze, Tea Tsulukiani, Tornike Rizhvadze, Vakhtang Gomelauri, Giorgi Volski, Irakli Chikovani, Anri Okhanashvili, Archil Talakvadze, Nikoloz Samkharadze, Maka Bochorashvili, Mariam Kvrivishvili.
Kobakhidze added the party charter has undergone slight modifications, reducing the political council’s membership from 20 to 16 individuals.
Notably, Kakha Kuchava and Eka Tikaradze will no longer serve as members of the Council. Kobakhidze explained, “they have not been actively involved in party activities recently, and they are no longer part of the political council. This decision was reached collaboratively.”
