Ruling party congress elects ex-PM as its new chair

The congress of the Georgian Dream ruling party on Thursday elected Irakli Garibashvili as the chairman of the party, after his resignation on Monday.
“The candidacy of Irakli Gharibashvili for the post of chairman has been unanimously approved. I congratulate Mr. Irakli and thank him for his three-year tenure as the Prime Minister, which brought great success to our country,” Irakli Kobakhidze, the former GD chair who has been nominated for the new PM, said.
The GD congress is taking place in Tbilisi Paragraph Hotel.
