Irakli Kobakhidze, the Chairman of Georgia’s ruling party, on Monday asserted that the country“possesses all necessary resources” to “significantly narrow” the developmental disparity with advanced European nations by 2030 and “eradicate poverty entirely”.
Highlighting Georgia’s “economic progress”, Kobakhidze pointed to data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), indicating that from 2012 to 2023, Georgia climbed from the 110th to the 79th position in global economic rankings, surpassing more than 30 countries.
He emphasized the “key role” of maintaining a peaceful and stable domestic environment alongside “effective economic policies” to achieve the goals. Contrary to the notion that membership in supranational unions accelerates economic development, Kobakhidze argued that Georgia’s “rapid economic growth” was primarily attributed to the government’s “proactive economic strategies”
The official expressed optimism about Georgia’s future prospects, noting “IMF projections suggest that by 2028, Georgia’s per capita GDP would exceed $32,000, significantly narrowing the gap with many EU member states”.
In conclusion, Kobakhidze reiterated Georgia’s commitment to minimizing the gap with advanced European nations, eradicating poverty entirely, and attaining high-income status by 2030.
