Irakli Zarkua, an MP of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday compared MEPs Rasa Juknevičienė, Andrius Kubilius, Anna Fotyga and their “brothers and sisters” in the European parliament” with those “insane” Georgian politicians, who are “running in the country alone” and raising “unfounded allegations”.

The MP’s comment, as he said, has come on the heels of the recent amendments made to another resolution of the European Parliament, which says that “people are politically persecuted in Georgia and that the country has political prisoners”.

“It turns out that Kezerashvili [former United National Movement defense minister, wanted by the Georgian government] is being persecuted unjustly, that he did not steal millions, he did not rob our soldiers, as if this person is sincere, noble and persecuted by the government of Georgia. Such amendments are introduced, these amendments are made by paid lobbyists and activists of the UNM”, Zarkua said.

“Just as the crazy Japara [referring to Georgian opposition politician Zurab Girchi Japaridze]  is running alone and [making unfounded allegations], they [the MEPs] are doing the same”, said the MP and noted that those politicians were unlikely to appear to EP for another tenure due to their “unfair attitudes”.
