Chairman of the Georgian Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee, Archil Gorduladze, accused opposition politicians of trying to politicize the judiciary and law enforcement agencies. In an interview with Imedi, he claimed that, despite their efforts, “in the end, justice and fairness always win.”

Gorduladze’s remarks come amid ongoing tensions between the ruling party and opposition leaders, some of whom have refused to appear before a parliamentary investigative commission. The commission, formed by the ruling party on February 5, continues to probe issues related to previous government and is seen by critics as a tool of political persecution.

“The opposition is clearly avoiding responsibility. They simply have no answers to the questions posed to them,” Gorduladze stated. He suggested that certain opposition figures may be avoiding the hearings due to past actions that could be considered criminal, allegedly carried out under foreign directives.

According to Gorduladze, these individuals are opting to face minor legal consequences — such as ignoring a lawful summons by the investigative commission — rather than risk more serious accountability.

“They are trying to stage yet another political show and inject a political context into what are essentially legal matters. But we’ve seen this movie before — with the Rustavi 2 case, with Nika Melia, with Nika Gvaramia, and with Mikheil Saakashvili,” he said, referring to opposition figures who have previously faced legal charges in Georgia.

He emphasized that in many of those cases, despite accusations of politically motivated prosecutions, European courts, including the European Court of Human Rights, ultimately upheld the decisions of Georgian courts, confirming that no violations of rights had occurred.

“Justice moves slowly, like a cart, but it does move. The public sees everything, and the same will happen in these current cases, no matter how much some individuals try to politicize legal institutions,” Gorduladze concluded.
