Beka Davituliani, the lawmaker of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday slammed Anne Toft Sørensen, the Danish Ambassador to Georgia, for labeling Bidzina Ivanishvili, the GD founder, as an oligarch who “amassed his fortune in Russia in the 1990s” in her latest op-ed for domestic media.

In his comments, which came on the heels of Ivanishvili’s third political comeback to Georgia, Davituliani claimed “unfortunately, some diplomats accredited in Georgia feel a little too much and are not well-aware of their functions”.

“This is not a misdemeanor. It is deliberately pouring water on [the interests] of the radical opposition, spreading completely baseless, unsubstantiated, fake news to promote the radicalization of processes. I think the ambassador of another country in Georgia has no right to do this”, Davituliani said, and noted the diplomat would be summoned for explanations at the country’s foreign office.
