The ruling party MP Irakli Zarkua on Wednesday urged the US ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan to call for sanctions on David Kezerashvili, a former defence minister in the United National Movement government, following the BBC exposing him in a fraudulent scheme on Tuesday.

He said the BBC journalistic investigation had confirmed Kezerashvili was the organizer of the fraudulent scheme of robbing European pensioners.

“In  Georgia, with this money, the former minister of defence funded the media and political parties, on which the main partner of Georgia, the US, should also state its position”, Zarkua said.

The ruling party has slammed the US for imposing sanctions on four Georgian judges last week, calling the move “unfair” and “ungrounded”.
