Bidzina Ivanishvili, Honorary Chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party, has assured voters that supporting Georgian Dream in the upcoming October 26 elections will guarantee that Georgia will not be dragged into war and that those responsible for war crimes will face the harshest penalties. Ivanishvili made these statements at a regional campaign event in Rustavi.
“By voting on October 26 and supporting Georgian Dream, you will ensure that no one can drag Georgia into war, and that those responsible for the crimes of war will be severely punished,” Ivanishvili declared.
Addressing the crowd, Ivanishvili welcomed residents of Rustavi city and surrounding areas, highlighting the region’s rich history and cultural heritage. He praised the progress made since GD’s rise to power in 2012, emphasizing the achievements in infrastructure development, judicial reform, and the protection of minority rights.
Ivanishvili reflected on the past, recalling the era of unemployment, poverty, and suffering in Rustavi before Georgian Dream’s administration. He claimed that under their governance, the city’s industrial potential was maximized, factories were revived, and citizens’ dignity was restored.
The former Prime Minister contrasted Georgian Dream’s achievements with the actions of the opposition United National Movement (UNM). He accused the UNM of sabotaging progress in Rustavi and obstructing vital city projects, portraying their actions as indicative of their broader threat to the nation’s stability.
The euling party leader criticized the opposition for what he described as their ongoing efforts to destabilize Georgia. He argued that the UNM’s radical opposition is driven by external influences rather than the interests of the Georgian people.
“On October 26, we are not choosing between good and better, but between war and peace, between foreign agents and those who represent Georgian interests. We will not allow foreign powers to interfere in our internal affairs,” Ivanishvili stated.
Ivanishvili further emphasized the importance of achieving a constitutional majority in the upcoming elections to ensure the country’s territorial integrity and to reinforce the constitutional status of the Orthodox Church, while assuring that no religious group in Georgia would face discrimination.
He concluded his speech by predicting a victory for goodness over evil, independence over foreign influence, and peace over war.
“On October 26, good will triumph over evil, independence will overcome foreign agents, and peace will prevail over war. May God protect us and our country,” Ivanishvili proclaimed.
