Kakha Kaladze, Secretary General of Georgia’s ruling Georgian Dream party, has criticised the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee following its approval of a critical report on Georgia, calling the resolution “worth a straw” and accusing EU institutions of corruption and dishonesty.

“We have seen many resolutions of this type. We know very well how they are adopted, how much they pay, what amounts are being discussed. All this is wrapped up in lobbying. In reality, it is ordinary corruption,” Kaladze said.

He accused the body of promoting a version of Europe “based on lies, falsehood and slander,” insisting that Georgia would ultimately integrate with a more just and truthful Europe - “the kind we aspire to, not the one we have today.”

Kaladze also targeted the report’s rapporteur, Lithuanian MEP Rasa Juknevičienė, describing her and other EU officials as “bureaucrats, odious types” who “lack credibility” among the Georgian public.

The European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee this week passed the draft report with 55 votes in favour, 14 against, and 4 abstentions. The report, which raises concerns about democratic backsliding in Georgia, will next be considered by the full Parliament.
