The Georgian Dream (GD) ruling party supporters have blocked students at Tbilisi State University on Thursday from distributing leaflets for the Home to Europe rally organized by the Shame Movement and NGOs on July 3 in Tbilisi.

The individuals, who claimed they were the students of the same university and supported the GD, verbally and physically abused those holding the leaflets.

“I am a supporter of the Georgian Dream and will always be. Don’t I have the right to express protest. Don’t I have the right to protest the rally? I dislike that you are distributing the leaflets,” said Nikoloz Melikishvili.

Police were present at the scene.

The demonstrators will demand the resignation of Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and the formation of a government of national consent in the forthcoming demonstration.

Two rallies entitled “Home to Europe”, with thousands of participants, have already been held, with the rally organizers accusing the Georgian Dream authorities of “being pro-Russians” and “depriving the country of the chance”  to receive the EU candidate status.
