Patriarch Daniel of the Romanian Orthodox Church has issued a message of condolence following the death of Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia.
In his statement, Patriarch Daniel said he received the news with deep sorrow, describing Ilia II as “a remarkable figure of contemporary Orthodoxy and a steadfast confessor of the faith,” who led the Georgian Orthodox Church with wisdom through both times of trial and renewal.
On behalf of the Romanian Orthodox Church, its clergy, and faithful, he extended condolences to the members of the Holy Synod and the entire Georgian Orthodox Church, concluding with the words: “May his memory be eternal.”
Ilia II died on March 17 at the age of 93.
