Fridon Fakauri, a Georgian man, who was illegally detained by Russian occupation forces near the occupied village of Zemo Artsevi, has been released and is now back on Georgian government-controlled territory. The information was released by Georgia’s State Security Service.

The agency highlighted the significant role played by the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia, particularly the use of the “hotline” mechanism, alongside all available tools at the central government’s disposal, in securing Fakauri’s release.

“The responsibility for all destructive actions carried out in the occupied regions of Georgia and along the occupation line lies with the occupying forces,” the statement read.

The Georgian government, in collaboration with international partners, remains committed to working towards the release of all Georgian citizens unlawfully detained in the occupied territories.
